BURGER KING® writes history.
The first BURGER KING® restaurant opened its doors in 1954 in Miami, USA. The WHOPPER® Sandwich was invented a whole three years later in 1957, costing just 37 cents. In 1963, the first restaurant outside of the US was opened in Puerto Rico. In 1969, the first sites were added in Canada, and in 1975, the opening of the BURGER KING® restaurant in Madrid heralded the leap to Europe. Today, BURGER KING® is represented globally with more than 12,600 restaurants in 86 countries.

There is always something new to discover in our BURGER KING® restaurants. Since 2011, more than 100 restaurants have been remodelled with our new design and more than 80 restaurants equipped with the BURGER KING® Café - a pleasure for lovers of the best coffee. In addition to design and taste, we also value sustainability. Apart from using seasonal, regional vegetables, BURGER KING® has already opened two green restaurants in Germany, in which 45% of energy costs have been saved and the CO2 emissions have been reduced by more than 120 tonnes per restaurant.

It’s not for nothing that our tomatoes and onions are freshly washed and sliced daily in the restaurant or that the WHOPPER® is freshly prepared to order. Every patty is freshly grilled for each guest; this is what our BURGER KING® stamp means: ‘Freshly flame-grilled’. Our quality promise starts even before that: with the product origin. For this reason, we predominantly rely on on our network of responsible suppliers. Ideally, these come directly from the surrounding region. Which you can taste.

AT HOME ACROSS THE WORLD
An American success story comes to South Africa.
The very first BURGER KING® restaurant in South Africa opened its doors in May 2013. A joint venture between Western Cape-based investment company, Grand Parade Investments, and BURGER KING® Worldwide, BURGER KING® South Africa has launched in the Western Cape with plans to expand nationally. The aggressive growth plans are expected to contribute significantly to the South African economy and create a significant number of jobs for South Africans over the next five years and beyond. Since 2010, BURGER KING® Worldwide has belonged to 3G Capital, an internationally active financial group that is focused on long-term and sustainable growth.
